This training is for parents and therefore does not qualify for CEU’s. Parents and kids alike are stressed and have been for 18 months. With school going back into session, it's expected that kids will start to act out again. In the workshop, designed for parents of kids with and without special needs, attendees will learn how to identify a behavior chain, how stress can affect the behavior chain, and Saundra Bishop’s unique BASICS steps to respond to the behaviors (and even a few to prevent it!).

TRAUMA INFORMED ABA SERIES Trauma Informed Behavior Management Workshop Series Workshop Number: 1 of 3 Topic: Trauma Informed Behavior Management: Trauma Events as Setting Events CEUs: 2 CEUs Description: Behavior analysts focus on observable and measurable behavior and direct function. This can make it difficult when trauma informed strategies seem counter to our assessments. However, if BCBAs and other providers that create behavior plans look at trauma events as setting events, they can create sensitive and effective interventions, which support all clients, including those who may be in foster care, school programs, or even simply living through COVID-19. In this 2 Part Workshop, we will explore how to identify Trauma Events, interventions targeting Trauma Event Setting Events (TESE), interventions targeting teaching Trauma Informed Replacement Behaviors, and interventions addressing Trauma Informed Consequence Procedures. In this workshop we will focus on learning about Trauma Events and the research supporting its effect on the lifespan and then we will move in depth to review Trauma Events as Setting Events. Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to recognize and define a trauma event. Attendees will be able to define how trauma events can function as a setting event. Attendees will be able to implement a trauma informed antecedent intervention addressing trauma event setting events (TESE).

This can make it difficult when trauma informed strategies seem counter to our assessments. However, if BCBAs and other providers that create behavior plans look at trauma events as setting events, they can create sensitive and effective interventions, which support all clients, including those who may be in foster care, school programs, or even simply living through COVID-19. In this 2 Part Workshop, we will explore how to identify Trauma Events, interventions targeting Trauma Event Setting Events (TESE), interventions targeting teaching Trauma Informed Replacement Behaviors, and interventions addressing Trauma Informed Consequence Procedures. In this workshop we will focus on learning about how we can teach Replacement behaviors that address function, setting events, antecedents, and trauma event setting events (TESE). Learning Objectives: Attendees will be able to teach replacement behaviors and alternative behaviors that target the unique functions that maintain behavior for people who have experienced trauma events. Attendees will be able to explain the difference between the 4 categories of new behaviors we can teach. Attendees will be able to utilize consequence interventions that address the trauma event setting event (TESE). Attendees will be able to hypothesize the social validity of this trauma informed plan. Attendees will be able to apply the course information to a real case during the training (live version only).

In this 3 Part Workshop, we will explore how to identify Trauma Events, interventions targeting Trauma Event Setting Events (TESE), interventions targeting teaching Trauma Informed Replacement Behaviors, and interventions addressing Trauma Informed Consequence Procedures. In this workshop we will walk through the worksheet to fill out a real case from your caseload. After you fill it out, you can submit it to Saundra Bishop, BCBA if you have questions. She will not be providing clinical guidance but can give feedback if the answers are in the correct category. This is an essential part of the process as is highly recommended. Ethics CEUS: 2 ABA is a science that can be applied in any number of ways to support people to meet their goals. However, ABA has a dark history of abuse. Opponents of ABA are starting to get recognized in the mainstream and are sharing stories of abuse they endured years ago. The refrain that often is stated is “That is old ABA” This is alienating to the populations we try to serve and creates a barrier to our field doing better. As a field we need to listen to these critisms so we can create programing that is trauma informed, client centered and most importantly- kind.

CEUS: 1.5 Many ABA companies are struggling right now. Small companies and big companies can’t find and retain RBTs. Small business owners are having trouble paying their bills. Large companies are closing their practices in entire states. In 2018, the turnover rates for RBTs ranged in studies from 30% to 75% (Molko, 2018). These numbers are likely the same or higher since the COVID pandemic and companies are also finding that the workforce pool is significantly smaller as well. In addition, since the pandemic began the field has also seen a 13% increase in turnover rate in Clinical Directors. Saundra Bishop, BCBA, LBA, CCTP has run a successful business for 13 years and pivoted in several ways during the pandemic. However, in March of 2022, she made the decision to downsize her company in order to stay open, provide services, and maintain a consistent workforce. In this workshop, Saundra Bishop will normalize the experience that many ABA owners are currently going through, explain the process she went through and how she got there, and offer some suggestions that could help other companies avoid a downsize. *This is not legal advice.
