Preventing Staff Burn-out Using an ABC Model

Preventing Staff Burn-out Using an ABC Model

Many ABA companies are struggling right now. Small companies and big companies can’t find and retain RBTs. Small business owners are having trouble paying their bills. Large companies are closing their practices in entire states. In 2018, the turnover rates for RBTs ranged in studies from 30% to 75% (Molko, 2018). These numbers are likely the same or higher since the COVID pandemic and companies are also finding that the workforce pool is significantly smaller as well. There are many factors contributing to these changes and one factor is burnout. Saundra Bishop, BCBA, LBA, CCTP has used her Trauma Informed ABA model to look at ways to address burnout for staff. This workshop helps staff use an ABC model to look at behaviors and address stressors. It also creates a model for a Success Plan that supervisors can use with staff before a Performance Improvement Plan is needed to address these issues.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and define a burnout risk for clinicians

  • Define how a burnout risk can function as a setting event

  • Have the tools to implement several types of antecedent interventions and replacement behaviors to reduce the likelihood of burnout
