But Daddy! I love him!: A Parent Training Case Study
Trauma Informed Behavior Management is becoming a more common framework in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other professions that do parent coaching. It is important that providers approach interventions through a trauma informed model when creating interventions for children but also with parent training. Research shows that people who have had more exposure to trauma events are more likely to have lasting measurable impacts throughout their lifespan related to health, academic, and economic outcomes such as increased risk of health issues. This includes effects that carry across generations through parenting methods. One way Behavior Analysts and other providers can manage this complexity is by looking at these trauma events as setting events and using them as part of the behavior change while creating interventions. This method can be applied to parent training as well. In this workshop, Saundra Bishop, MS, BCBA, CCPT will take a slightly light hearted approach to this model by using King Triton and Ariel in the Little Mermaid as a Case Study.
Attendees will:
1. Explore and define trauma (and trauma events) and how addressing these as setting events can help us create trauma-informed interventions.
2. Define and detail how this approach applies to a case study (Little Mermaid and King Triton)
3. Express how to implement parent training strategies for one of their own clients
